Subject: Wislawa Szymborska

I don't think that I have a chance at this, but would anyone know any possible way to get a mailing address for Wislawa Szymborska? I am trying to get a first edition signed for my fiancé to give to her as a wedding gift.

I know that she is a private person, but the romantic in me wants to at least try and do it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, Brian:

The key to finding anyone famous, besides, as you know, a politician, is to make contact with the agent. I imagine Szymborska has one in New York, and you can probably get his or her name from her publisher, Houghton.

Better, find out from them who her agent is in Poland. Then find someone who speaks Polish to call the agent in Warsaw. This would give you more of a chance to reach the great woman herself.

Dear Mr. Doister,

I read your post of a H. L. Mencken book review in which he discusses Hinduism and Yoga, which was cited as appearing in the American Mercury under the title, "Nonsense Out of the East."

I was wondering if you know the date of the issue and perhaps the page number or where I might find such data.

Hi, Bob:

We're completely in the dark here. These issues were drunkenly copied by one of our drunken editors years ago. He did an amazingly crappy job, cutting off the date and issue of the magazine, and, in some cases, even the funniest of Mencken's beginnings or endings (which meant we could not use some reviews at all).

Sorry.
