Thought you might like to know that Hunter Thompson has been nominated to be in The Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, and there is an online campaign to help him get in. If you want to help, email me back and I can give you the info and you can pass it on to whoever you think might be interested.

Mama mia! It is not unlike hearing that the Marquis de Sade had belatedly been invited to join l'Académe Francais

Subject: Hugh Gallagher

Years ago I picked up a copy of  Hugh Gallagher's book on FDR's paralysis in my library and it has proven to be one of the most important books that I have ever read.

I recently ordered it from Amazon.com for my son-in-law (a pediatrician) and came across Gallagher's biography:  Blackbird Fly Away.  After reading this --- in one day --- I have been searching for everything and anything that I can find out about this remarkable man.

I don't know if anyone who isn't a religious fundamentalist has worked this out, but I am  thinking about how Gallagher's disability and his ability to write about it with a deep and humble honesty, had a powerfully positive impact on the lives of others.  And also how much he probably would have traded all of this if he could magically be restored to his pre-polio health.

I am writing to tell you that I was very moved by your tribute in Ralph.

Thank you very much.
